Mt Rushmore, South Dakota

In honor of President’s Day I’d love to share how much we loved our trip to Mt Rushmore last year! Mt Rushmore is a really wonderful place for kids. There’s so much to do! It’s no wonder nearly 3 million people visit per year! Starting with the obvious, which is viewing the majestic sculptures of the Presidents. You can also the visit the Lincoln Borglum Visitor Center to view exhibits and a short video about how and why they carved Mount Rushmore. You can walk the Presidential Trail which is about 1/2 a mile and A LOT of stairs (over 400) to get a closer look of the mountain sculpture and wildlife area. There is a lot of wildlife walking around which is always such a treat for the kids and adults alike! There’s also the Sculptor’s Studio, The Lakota, Nakota and Dakota Heritage Village, and an Evening Lighting Ceremony. They have a big gift shop and a Cafe. Since this is a National Park, they offer Ranger led programs. My kids love those, since they award the kids Ranger badges upon completing their missions! If you can’t make it out to a National Park, kids can also become a WebRanger online! It’s a fun way to get kids to learn, I highly recommend it! You can get more info on nps.gov
