Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge

Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge’s (NWR) is 90 miles north of Las Vegas. The 5,382 acres of refuge gives visitors access to five different habitat types made up of meadows, marshes, lakes, streams and desert. Pahranagat offers hiking trails, camping, and boating, fishing, and hunting during certain seasons. The wetlands create habitats for a diverse wildlife including migratory birds who stop here during spring and fall to refuel for their long journeys ahead. During the winter months many of them breed here. There are also deer, reptiles, small mammals, and rare fish who live here.
Birdwatching and photography are popular here due to the recording of 264 birds species, which is more than half of all birds recorded in the state of Nevada, including a couple of endangered and threatened species.
The refuge is open every day 24hrs a day. The visitor center, is open Thursday-Monday, 9am-4:30 pm. The visitor center features interactive exhibits, a movie room, informational brochures, and a small gift shop. It’s a great place to cool down during the warmer months!
