PBS Voices series American Veteran: Keep It Close

Update:

On PBS now! “Meet the Vet Who Fought for More Inclusive Hair Standards in the Army”

Up until 2021, the U.S. military regulations for hair styles overlooked the needs of Black women. Army Lt. Colonel Andrea Peters constantly worried that she would be reprimanded for not following regulations or that her professionalism would be questioned. This episode journeys with Peters as she shows us how a hair pick symbolizes her role in getting the Army to recognize the needs of Black service members.
