Film Synopsis
Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, who must face the past he thought he left behind and confront his father, leader of the dangerous Ten Rings organization. The film also stars Awkwafina as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy, Meng’er Zhang, Fala Chen, and Florian Munteanu, with Michelle Yeoh as Ying Nan and Tony Leung as Xu Wenwu.
My family and I were extremely excited to watch this movie. We are huge Marvel fans and thrilled that there would be a new Marvel movie with an all new character coming from the comics! Although this story totally stood on its own, there were Avenger tidbits thrown in throughout the film and we loved it. We would all scream and cheer when we recognized them. This story mixes culture and fantasy in such a beautiful way. The film portrays a dysfunctional family that comes together to face their past traumas that they inflicted on each other and try to work together. In between we are wowed by the powers and culture of their people and cannot help but have huge smiles on our faces every time Awkwafina is in a scene. She is such a ray of sunshine that lights up the screen. She makes every line so fun and funny. Since we cannot get enough of her, the ending made it super exciting when (spoiler alert) we see that they will be joining the Avengers. There was something in this film for every one of the members in our family, from the beautiful scenery to the hand to hand combat, the humor, the love story, and the fantasy. It all made for a great film that we are excited to watch again and with all the extras that are included.
