Kid 90

KID 90

I grew up watching Punky Brewster which is why I was so star struck when we interviewed Soleil Moon Frye for her new documentary film Kid 90 which she directed and produced.

We were given an early preview to the documentary that premiers today, March 12, 2021 on Hulu. She told us that we were one of the first groups of people to see it. After watching it we discussed it and had a Q&A with her. Our questions were mostly mom questions since it was a Mamarazzi event hosted by The Moms. She discussed her struggles about then and now and how being a mom and going through the process of making this documentary has changed her outlook on life. She shared that the pandemic has brought her daughters closer which is rewarding as a mom. She also discussed her gratitude for Punky and the reboot. After having this conversation with her and watching the documentary, it made me love her even more. She has lived a very extraordinary life and seems to have remained with her head and heart in a very grounded place. The film follows Moon Frye in the 90s who carried a camera around with her everywhere she went before it was a thing. She was the original vlogger! She has the most intimate footage of the most iconic child stars. Her circle of friends were ones that I grew up idolizing! It shows how these child stars dealt with fame and the aftermath of it all. There is sex, drugs, death, and lots of explicit language. This is definitely one for the moms and not the kids.

I was completely fascinated watching such raw footage of these stars that included Brian Austin Green, David Arquette, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Stephen Dorff, Balthazar Getty, Heather McComb, Jenny Lewis, Perry Farrell and Leonardo DiCaprio who also served as executive producer. Several of them also provided updated interviews and relived moments with Solei. It was great to see that most of them still had a deep connection and love for each other.

Check out Kid 90 on Hulu starting today March 12, 2021.
