Secrets of Sulphur Springs at our very own Camp Tremont

We watched this week’s episode of Secrets of Sulphur Springs at our very own Camp Tremont with some hot cocoa bombs and a fire. It was the perfect treat for this chilly and rainy week here in SoCal.

After watching another exciting episode, Disney Channel PR and Kristin Cruz set up a Q&A with stars Kelly Frye and Josh Braaten, who play Griffin’s parents on the show. I told them about my love for Louisiana and asked them how they felt about filming on location in Louisiana. They both agreed that they absolutely loved the food and probably put on a couple pounds from so much indulging! Kelly complimented our beignet making skills from our posts a couple weeks ago.  We also discussed their favorite moments on set and favorite episodes. They each talked about how they relate to their characters, what they have learned from their characters and how differently they would do things in real life.

In last week’s episode 9 “As Time Goes By,” Sarah has a spooky encounter with a message that appears on the mirror spelling out “STAY” and as the twins come in the message disappears and the lights start to flicker. They run downstairs and call Ben on the phone and Sarah lets out a terrified scream. Ben rushes over to find her and the kids safe and with a police officer. They give the officer clothing that belongs to Griffin and Harper to help the K9 sniff their way to the kids.

Griffin and Harper realize they cannot bring Savanah back, the hatch is stuck, and they need to get back home. As they head back Harper notices that Jess meets a boy who Harper thinks might be her dad.

Griffin and Harper come back to present time and reunite with their families. They make up the excuse that they were going to run away so that they would not be forced to stay apart and because of Harper’s feelings about her dad.

Jess takes Harper to her dad’s grave and talks to her about him. She confirms that it was Harper’s dad that she met at the Tremont that last day of camp.

Griffin hears his parents arguing about Ben keeping secrets and how his mom wants to move back to Chicago.

The next day Harper arrives early to school to research the storm of 1960 in Sulphur Springs. With assistance from Ms. Douglas, she finds a picture of Savannah in 1962 for the reopening of the Tremont, which means that Savannah survived the storm. When she calls

Griffin to tell him the good news, he tells her that he is moving back to Chicago and cannot go back to help save Savanah.

After Griffin’s parent’s argument, Ben left the house. Sarah asks Jess for help and she tells him to look for him by the old tree house. Ben finally tells his wife what happened the night of Savannah’s disappearance. He tells her how Savannah snuck out of the tree house that night and went to the basement. Ben found her and they stayed awake telling jokes until they heard a weird noise. He ran away thinking Savannah had followed, but she had not. The next morning, he heard that she went missing and felt responsible for her disappearance. He has always felt guilty and has been trying to make bad memories better at the Tremont.

Griffin and Harper keep trying to figure out how to get Savanah back. Griffin shows her the unplugged tape machine that played music and they hear a noise coming from a radio that looks like the one they had seen in the bunker. The dials on the radio start moving on their own showing them a combination. They go to the radio in the bunker and enter the code and realize that it is Savannah guiding them to her.

As always, the episode left us in such suspense!

On tonight’s episode, “No Time Like the Present,” they touch on a huge subject, which made me love this show even more. As a woman of color I sometimes struggle on having conversations with my children about the world and how it can be for people of color. I am so happy that the show touched on this which opens up these conversations for our family. It is imperative for people of all backgrounds to have these conversations with their kids and I am grateful to Disney for not ignoring or pretending that these issues do not exist.

Also on tonight’s episode, we are finally getting the answers we have been waiting all season long to know. Griffin and Harper figure out how to use the old radio they found to guide them back to Savannah. They figure out that they can choose what year they travel to by selecting it on the dial. They go back to 1962 and I can not wait for you all to watch it.  See below for a preview and come back here next week for a recap of it!

If you need to catch up or re-watch episodes, you can watch them on Disney NOW or Disney+ and watch tonight’s episode on Disney Channel at 8pm PST.
